Domaine Méo-Camuzet 2019

January 2021

Jean-Nicolas Méo began picking on 13th September in 2019 with Clos de Vougeot and Corton. There was great ripeness and the challenge for the domaine was that everything ripened at the same time –  logistically complex with vineyards spread across nearly the full length of the Côte d’Or. We were unable to taste but are pleased to have a small allocation of three of the domaine’s important wines and to provide the tasting notes of Jasper Morris MW, whose website insideburgundy.com is fast becoming an invaluable resource for Burgundy collectors and drinkers since its launch in late 2018.

2019 Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet
£380 per 6 bottle case in bond

90-93 points, Jasper Morris, insideburgundy.com, November 2020

Bright fresh mid purple. This is clean and pure, vibrant with a tightness to the finish, that suggests that it could use more elevage, which indeed is planned. This should open out hereafter and put some more flesh on the promising bone structure.

2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru, Les Chaumes, Domaine Méo-Camuzet
£315 per 3 bottle case in bond

93-95 points, Jasper Morris, insideburgundy.com, November 2020

45 Year old vines are giving consistent results. Dense powerful purple. Very complete all enveloping rich purple fruit on the nose. The alcohol is not too prominent. Very succulent up front, with ripe deep red cherries, and a nice little tingle of acidity. The vines and grapes have been well nourished by the clay soil.

2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Domaine Méo-Camuzet
£630 per 3 bottle case in bond

93-95 points, Jasper Morris, insideburgundy.com, November 2020

Medium purple lighter rim, soft and very ripe raspberry/strawberry fruit. The Clos Vougeot was picked early but possibly it was already at the limit of ripeness. Lower acidity and showing its wood more.

As always with Burgundy releases, we are unable to sell leading Grand Cru and Premier Cru or wines from particularly sought-after domaines in isolation – we cannot buy them from the domaines that way ourselves and we are aware that demand is sure to outstrip supply. However, instead of running a complex system of allocations, we do aim to confirm requests as soon as we are able to do so or to highlight where we are unable to assist. To request a specific wine, please contact any member of the sales team on +44 (0) 20 3017 2299. You can also reach Simon Larkin MWRichard O'Mahony, and James Ceppi di Lecco by email.
