The 2019 vintage sees the size of Sebastien Cathiard’s vineyard holdings in the Burgundy dramatically expanded from the well-established 4.6 hectares to over 8 hectares. The huge majority of this is in the Hautes Côtes de Nuits and has resulted in the two cuvées Aux Chaumes and Les Dames Huguette.
Additionally, Sebastien acquired a third of a hectare in Gevrey-Chambertin and some Côte de Beaune Blanc, from which he is making a small amount of Aligoté. Other than this, little has changed with the goal merely to bring increasingly refined expression of detail to the trademark textural style established by Sylvain.
Sebastien has not sent samples out, nor have any critics tasted the wines after Sebastien cancelled all appointments because of the Covid lockdowns. There has however been such consistency in the wines of Domaine Sylvain Cathiard for so long now that we have no concerns about the wines and are particularly excited to be adding a further three wines to our offering this year: the Gevrey-Chambertin and the two Hautes Côtes de Nuits – Aux Chaumes and Les Dames Huguette.
