Domaine Drouhin-Laroze 2019

January 2021

The strong sense of purpose and dynamism which has been seen at Domaine Drouhin-Laroze in recent vintages is once again reflected in the 2019s. The harvest began here on 13th September and lasted until 22nd September. Yields were down by 20-45% but, as elsewhere, the reduced quantity did not negatively impact the quality. The warmth of the vintage has been captured in deeply textured wines with ripe fruit, but with a vibrancy and dynamism to the palate across the range.

2019 Gevrey-Chambertin, Dix Climats, Domaine Drouhin-Laroze
£180 per 6 bottle case in bond

Clean, ripe, pure, fresh summer fruit on the nose leads into a palate that is silky, cushioned and softly textured but not loose. Good focus of forest fruit towards the end with a fine stony and spicy touch lifting the finish. There is a great sense of ripeness but no heat on the palate, just intense, rich, dark fruit and a good mineral drive carrying the finish. Drink 2023-2029

2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Domaine Drouhin-Laroze
£600 per 6 bottle case in bond

The Drouhin-Laroze Clos de Vougeot shows a softly dense, ripe fruit character. The fruit is fresh and vibrant with floral nuances, but the palate opens with a plush, velvet-textured appeal which gives way to a real mineral dimension and drive. The finish is marked by a spicy touch and a long, stony mineral persistence. Another excellent Clos de Vougeot. Drink 2024-2040

2019 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru, Domaine Drouhin-Laroze
£690 per 6 bottle case in bond

Good colour density here and with intense ripe fruit. Notes of coffee, chocolate and ripe blue and red berry fruit. The palate too shows concentrated darker red and blue fruit characters but with a vibrancy and poise due to the clear mineral structure. There is great length and vibrancy here with an underpinning energy and sense of direction to suggest this will age very well. Drink 2025-2040

As always with Burgundy releases, we are unable to sell leading Grand Cru and Premier Cru or wines from particularly sought-after domaines in isolation – we cannot buy them from the domaines that way ourselves and we are aware that demand is sure to outstrip supply. However, instead of running a complex system of allocations, we do aim to confirm requests as soon as we are able to do so or to highlight where we are unable to assist. To request a specific wine, please contact any member of the sales team on +44 (0) 20 3017 2299. You can also reach Simon Larkin MWRichard O'Mahony, and James Ceppi di Lecco by email.
