Joseph Drouhin 2018

January 2020

The meticulous care that the Drouhin family show in both vineyard and cellar shines through in wines of wondeful clarity and precision.  It is impossible not to admire their careful approach to extraction of both flavour and tannin, as well as their philosophy towards ageing in barrel, where they even oversee the selection of the oak before instructing the cooperage to fashion their barrels. The whites show beautiful aromatic expression with a fine balance on the palate. The reds are deeply coloured, with good concentration of pure ripe fruit and fine-grained tannins, yet retaining the trademark elegance and balance of the Drouhin style.

2018 Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru,  Les Folatieres, Joseph Drouhin
£360 per 6 bottle case in bond

A gentle creamy touch on the nose with lime and almond blosson notes. Lovely clarity and freshness on the palate allied to good mineral expression with a white stone touch to the end.  Drink 2021-2030

2018 Meursault Premier Cru, Les Charmes, Joseph Drouhin
£360 per 6 bottle case in bond

Pure and elegant on the nose with ripe white stone fruit aromas.  These follow through to a palate that shows juicy fruit depth and the typical rounded, mouth-filling style of Les Charmes.  There is a fine sense of harmony in the fresh nectarine and citrus finish.  Drink 2021-2030

2018 Beaune Premier Cru, Clos des Mouches, Joseph Drouhin
£375 per 6 bottle case in bond

Rich, ripe fruit on the nose with a pleasing fruit skin grip on the attack.  Intense red fruits coat the palate with good breadth and balance. Long with rich fruit and fine tannins. Drink 2023-2035

2018 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru, Joseph Drouhin
£1700 per 6 bottle case in bond

A fine example of Griotte from Drouhin with a seamless quality and a sense of finesse that set this cru apart.  The fruit is expressed with great purity and restraint but behind that delicacy of fruit there is a sustaining mineral persistence that is very compelling.  Drink 2024-2038

As always with Burgundy releases, we are unable to sell leading Grand Cru and Premier Cru or wines from particularly sought-after domaines in isolation – we cannot buy them from the domaines that way ourselves and we are aware that demand is sure to outstrip supply. However, instead of running a complex system of allocations, we do aim to confirm requests as soon as we are able to do so or to highlight where we are unable to assist. To request a specific wine, please contact any member of the sales team on +44 (0) 20 3017 2299. You can also reach Simon Larkin MWRichard O'Mahony, and James Ceppi di Lecco by email.
