Domaine Faiveley 2018

January 2020

The benefits of the carefully designed new winery have permitted Faiveley to fashion a remarkable set of wines in 2018, which were harvested from 27th August, the earliest harvest since 2003.  The wines show the riper nature of the vintage but the fruit retains its freshness and poise.  The focus on consistently high quality that Erwan Faiveley and chief winemaker Jerome Flous have made their watchword comes through clearly across the range, with lovely textures and structures to the wines.

2018 Nuits-St-Georges Premier Cru, Les Porets-St-Georges, Domaine Faiveley
£270 per 6 bottle case in bond

A vibrant nose of black cherry and raspberry leads into a palate that shows fine fruit purity and all the mineral tension typical of Les Porets.  There is such elegance attached to the ripe fruit of this vintage and the taut, linear quality of the terroir gives great persistence.  Drink 2024-2035

2018 Nuits-St-Georges Premier Cru, Aux Chaignots, Domaine Faiveley
£285 per 6 bottle case in bond

A lovely core of sweet ripe fruit is gracefully carried on a silky-textured palate. As always, this northerly premier cru of Nuits balances fruit ripeness and richness with a freshness and a subtly expressed mineral length with the whole underpinned by fine, ripe tannins.  Drink 2023-2035

2018 Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru, Les Charmes, Domaine Faiveley
£385 per 6 bottle case in bond

The scented red berry fruit nose shows an elegant floral dimension and is followed by a palate of ripe, supple red fruit.  Supple and graceful through the mid-palate there is nevertheless and pleasing mineral cut at the end bringing good energy and persistence.  Drink 2023-2035

2018 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, Domaine Faiveley
£770 per 6 bottle case in bond

Pure, clean, ripe fruit shows in a cool, mineral style typical of Latricieres-Chambertin.  Great finesse and poise on the palate with a finish marked by a long, fine mineral intensity and ripe, fine tannins.  Drink 2025-2040

As always with Burgundy releases, we are unable to sell leading Grand Cru and Premier Cru or wines from particularly sought-after domaines in isolation – we cannot buy them from the domaines that way ourselves and we are aware that demand is sure to outstrip supply. However, instead of running a complex system of allocations, we do aim to confirm requests as soon as we are able to do so or to highlight where we are unable to assist. To request a specific wine, please contact any member of the sales team on +44 (0) 20 3017 2299. You can also reach Simon Larkin MWRichard O'Mahony, and James Ceppi di Lecco by email.
