Domaine Faiveley 2020

January 2022

The Faiveley team continue their upward trajectory with this very fine set of wines from the 2020 vintage. The precision that their new winery in Nuits-St Georges allows them is really starting to show and add further detail and purity to a range that was already on the up under Jérôme Flous. Their harvest was quick and early with everything completed on 1st September and the wines all show a clean, pure, healthy fruit quality together with a balance and energy.

2020 Nuits-St Georges Premier Cru, Les Porets St Georges, Domaine Faiveley NOT AVAILABLE

£330 per 6 bottle case in bond

Scented, creamy, cherry fruit nose. Lovely purity and freshness. Taut, firm core showing a stony mineral grip. Clean fruit underpinned by fine tannins and mineral energy. Drink 2026-2040

2020 Nuits-St Georges Premier Cru, Aux Chaignots, Domaine Faiveley NOT AVAILABLE

£360 per 6 bottle case in bond

Creamy red and blue berry fruit here on the nose, where a promise of velvet seamlessness comes through too. Good weight of healthy red fruit on the palate. Clean, pure, vibrant. Good fruit and fine balance. A touch of clay-derived minerality at the end. Drink 2026-2040

2020 Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru, Les Charmes, Domaine Faiveley  NOT AVAILABLE

£450 per 6 bottle case in bond

Lovely pale hue then a nose that is the essence of elegant Pinot Noir, all scented red fruit and floral notes. There is a weightlessness on the palate, with flowing, fresh, pure red fruit and a perfectly balanced mineral grip. The finish resonates with beautifully fresh, vibrant fruit. Grace and poise. Drink 2025-2040

2020 Corton, Clos des Cortons-Faiveley Grand Cru, Domaine Faiveley SOLD OUT

£870 per 6 bottle case in bond

Essence-like, floral nose. Intense yet so clean and pure. There is an evolving complexity on the palate and through the finish with layers of minerality – stony, white stone purity, irony-clay density, all vying with the compact blue fruit core. This is such a stand-out in the range yet again and continues to offer incredible value for a Grand Cru of such purity of expression, complexity and potential. Drink 2027-2040

2020 Echezeaux, En Orveaux Grand Cru, Domaine Faiveley SOLD OUT

£960 per 6 bottle case in bond

Compact and concentrated. Beautifully clean and healthy blue and red fruit with such poise and focus. Also so much white stone minerality here together with the freshness and glorious length of pure fruit. Long, floral, taut, mineral. Another very fine Echezeaux En Orveaux from Faiveley. Drink 2025-2040

2020 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, Domaine Faiveley SOLD OUT

£990 per 6 bottle case in bond

Initially quite closed, but again here there is a remarkable sense of healthy fruit. Vibrant, clean, pure, fresh, if currently tightly wound. Even the underlying mineral drive and tension is held under lock and key. Such contained energy. This will be very good, retaining a certain classicism within the vintage context. Drink 2027-2040

2020 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru, Domaine Faiveley SOLD OUT

£900 per 3 bottle case in bond

This is so tightly wound, restrained and reined in, but with a real sense of power beneath. On the palate the fruit ripeness and health come through with the Faiveley trademark freshness and purity. There is an intense mineral spine to this Clos de Bèze and such tremendous persistence. As seems to be typical for the vintage, this will need time and should be increasingly magnificent. Drink 2030-2045

As always with Burgundy releases, we are unable to sell leading Grand Cru and Premier Cru or wines from particularly sought-after domaines in isolation – we cannot buy them from the domaines that way ourselves and we are aware that demand is sure to outstrip supply. However, instead of running a complex system of allocations, we do aim to confirm requests as soon as we are able to do so or to highlight where we are unable to assist. To request a specific wine, please contact any member of the sales team on +44 (0) 20 3017 2299. You can also reach Simon Larkin MWRichard O'Mahony, and James Ceppi di Lecco by email.
