Burgundy 2015 - Meo-Camuzet

A welcome and relatively recent addition to our Burgundian portfolio, Domaine Méo-Camuzet is based in Vosne-Romanée although – due to some clever work by the original founder, Etienne Camuzet – it has extensive holdings across the most sought after parts of the Côte-de-Nuits. The Domaine’s profile was elevated in the late 20th century by the involvement of Henri Jayer, who looked after the vines and made the wines for many years. Jean-Nicholas Méo is currently at the helm, making wonderfully elegant, fragrant Pinot Noir. The fruit is farmed organically for the most part, although not dogmatically so, allowing the domaine to treat for mildew and spray to prevent the onset of rot in difficult years. The result is impeccable purity and freshness and the wines certainly earn their place in our Burgundy range.

Méo-Camuzet Frère et Soeurs
The Méo family have a small négociant business buying grapes from neighbours, making the wines in exactly the same way as the rest of their range.

Domaine Méo-Camuzet, Vosne-Romanée 2015
The domaine owns nearly two hectares of Vosne-Romanée villages, split across two parcels of vines. The larger parcel is in Les Barreaux, which lies next to the legendary Premier Cru Cros Parantoux. Accordingly, the wine has more structure and grip than is usually expected at villages level. This is typically a very suave and silky style of Vosne-Romanee… the 2015 is a touch richer but also a touch livelier than usual with a lifted freshness and striking energy. Luxurious fruit is tempered by energy and surprising length. At once graceful and decadent, it is hard to imagine a more impressive village wine. Drink 2018-2023

Domaine Méo-Camuzet, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru, Les Chaumes 2015*
Meo’s Premier Cru Les Chaumes demonstrates how fortuitous the domaine is, with holdings of over one hectare of this vineyard which lies below both La Tâche and Les Malconsorts. The 2015 is an extremely pretty example of Chaumes. This has the deep, dark fruit characteristic of Vosne-Romanée with delicate red berry notes and spicy lifted aromatics. Chaumes is always structured and the 2015 has firm yet very fine tannins of exemplary quality. Drink 2018-2025.

Domaine Méo-Camuzet, Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2015*
The Domaine has three hectares of vines right at the heart of this Grand Cru. In fact, the Château du Clos de Vougeot used to be part of the estate until Monsieur Camuzet passed the ownership of the Château to the Chevaliers du Tastevin. This wine always impresses, with dark fruit and mixed spices and a fine backbone. The 2015 is powerful Clos Vougeot with copious depth and remarkable length. This is considerably more decadent than the 2014 yet remains fresh, clear and precise. The deliciously silky texture and pure, hedonistic fruit are underpinned by the stony, serious personality that is found in the best Clos Vougeot. In typical Meo style, all this power and complexity is delivered with poise and elegance. Very fine. Drink 2020-2031

Méo-Camuzet Frère et Soeurs, Chambolle-Musigny 2015
Vinified from two different parcels of vines in Chambolle-Musigny, ‘Les Athets’ and ‘Les Drazey’, this Chambolle is accomplished with the same care and attention as the Domaine’s own wines. The 2015 is a deliciously more-ish Chambolle with classic notes of raspberry and cherry, fine tannins and impressive concentration. Like many 2015s, this Chambolle has a freshness which tempers and enlivens the rich fruit. The result is a wine of pure pleasure but also of refinement and restraint. Drink 2018-2022

As always with Burgundy releases, we are unable to sell leading Grand Cru and Premier Cru or wines from particularly sought-after domaines in isolation – we cannot buy them from the domaines that way ourselves and we are aware that demand is sure to outstrip supply. However, instead of running a complex system of allocations, we do aim to confirm requests as soon as we are able to do so or to highlight where we are unable to assist. To request a specific wine, please contact any member of the sales team on +44 (0) 20 3017 2299. You can also reach Simon Larkin MWRichard O'Mahony, and James Ceppi di Lecco by email.
