Burgundy 2015 - Darviot Perrin

Domaine Darviot-Perrin has been dedicated to producing wines of excellent quality since its inception in 1989. Although based in Monthélie in the Côte de Beaune, the majority of their wines are produced from holdings in Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet and Volnay. Since the very first commercial bottling 25 years ago the Domaine has attracted global acclaim. Today, the property spans 11 hectares and is managed by husband-and-wife team Didier and Geneviève Darviot, now assisted by their daughter Alix. Geneviève’s father, Pierre Perrin, passed down his extensive knowledge of winemaking and vineyards to Didier and the Domaine’s first vintage was realised through the Darviot-Perrin partnership, a partnership which continues in a different guise to this day. The focus with Domaine Darviot-Perrin is on producing the best possible fruit and minimal intervention in the cellar to create beautifully focused and pure wines. We are pleased to be offering what we consider to be the very best of the Darviot-Perrin portfolio, namely their two exceptional Meursault Premier Cru and the Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru ‘Blanchots Dessus’ from a prized strip of vineyard close to Le Montrachet itself.

Domaine Darviot-Perrin, Meursault-Genevrières 1er Cru 2015
The Premier Cru of Meursault-Genevrières sits just to the north of the Premier Cru of Les Perrières and boasts a similar mineral-laden terroir with a favourable south/south-easterly aspect. Accordingly, these two Premier Crus from Darviot-Perrin are similar, both being crystalline in their purity and weighted with elegant citrus fruit. Their Genevrières typically possesses a slightly more approachable nature, a difference that is particularly evident in a comparison of the two 2015s. This is a succulent Genevrières, which is emblematic of the generosity of many of the 2015 whites. This Genevrières has plenty of freshness, lifted by the acidity rather than defined by it. A compelling example which should give pleasure in youth. Just 200 cases made. Drink 2018-2024

Domaine Darviot-Perrin, Meursault-Perrières 1er Cru 2015
Few dispute that Les Perrières is the finest Premier Cru in Meursault. The Darviot family own vines here which were planted before the Second World War. The quality of fruit from these old vines adds firm structure, fine fruit intensity and the ability to mature over many years. At this great address, the Meursault Perrières 2015 is considerably more driven than the Genevrières 2015 with a deeply mineral profile. However, like the Genevrières this is more generous than is typical with a prominent waxy yellow fruit character, some stone fruit richness and even a touch of the exotic. The Perrières 2015 reflects the generous character of the vintage but above all it evokes the distinctive structure and texture that can be achieved by this vineyard, built on deep minerality and citrus verve. There are typically only around 125 cases and again, in 2015 it is one to not miss. Drink 2018-2025

Domaine Darviot-Perrin, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru, Blanchots Dessus 2015
As with the Meursault Perrières, this 1.2-hectare Premier Cru towers over its peers in terms of quality and, out of the many Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Crus, it is the one most frequently considered for promotion to Grand Cru. Indeed, it lies adjacent to three of the finest Grand Crus, namely the vineyards of Le Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet and Les Criots Batard Montrachet. The family make just 150 cases from vines that were planted in 1965. In 2015, the pedigree of this great site shines through in fruit that is succulent and generous yet beautifully pure and crystalline. The Blanchots Dessus 2015 offers incredible lift that amplifies and elevates this stunning Chassagne. This is a class act and one of the most impressive whites of the 2015 vintage. Drink 2018-2025

As always with Burgundy releases, we are unable to sell leading Grand Cru and Premier Cru or wines from particularly sought-after domaines in isolation – we cannot buy them from the domaines that way ourselves and we are aware that demand is sure to outstrip supply. However, instead of running a complex system of allocations, we do aim to confirm requests as soon as we are able to do so or to highlight where we are unable to assist. To request a specific wine, please contact any member of the sales team on +44 (0) 20 3017 2299. You can also reach Simon Larkin MWRichard O'Mahony, and James Ceppi di Lecco by email.
