Burgundy 2014

Domaine Faiveley 2017

Please note: We regret that, just like all fine wine merchants, we are unable to sell leading Grand Cru and Premier Cru or wines from particularly sought after domaines in isolation – we cannot buy them from the domaines that way ourselves and we are aware that demand is sure to outstrip supply. Instead of running a complex system of allocations, we aim to confirm requests shortly after they are made or highlight where we are unable to assist or where a balance might be required to secure a particularly desirable wine.

Erwan Faiveley continues to drive Domaine Faiveley forward to ever greater heights of quality.  Having taken over in 2005, he proceeded to invest in new winemaking facilities and to employ the brilliant Jerome Flous as Chief Winemaker, the result of which has been huge improvements in quality and more considered use of new oak.

Vineyard acquisition has also been a focus of Erwan’s tenure with 20 hectares in Gevrey Chambertin added in 2013, including vines in both Charmes-Chambertin and Lavaux Saint Jacques.  The family produce wine from a remarkable 10 hectares of Grand Cru and 25 Premier Cru with many of these in prime Côte de Nuits appellations.  More recently the winemaking facilities have been completely renovated and a new winery was inaugurated in the summer of 2018.

We are delighted to have our allocation of both Premier and Grand Crus, including some of the most sought-after wines such as Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Fuées and the Chambertin-Clos de Bèze.

2017 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru, Les Porets-St-Georges, Domaine Faiveley

£ 270 per 6 bottle case in bond

The nose displays a great core of fresh, ripe, black cherry fruit, all very well expressed. This follows through onto the palate in a flowing, graceful style. On the palate, thepure fruit is beautifully held in tension by a taut mineral core. This is an excellent Porets, capturing the essence of this Premier Cru in the centre of the Nuits appellation. Great mineral energy and elegance on the finish. Drink 2020-2028

2017 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru, Aux Chaignots, Domaine Faiveley

£ 270 per 6 bottle case in bond

There is a beautiful balance here between the silky sucrosité of well-managed whole bunch use and a gravelly minerality; both are present, neither dominates. The finish is marked by a long fruit core and freshness. This is all about fruit sweetness and textural fluidity allied to freshness and mineral persistence. Drink 2022-2029

2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru, Les Charmes, Domaine Faiveley

£ 380 per 6 bottle case in bond

Perfumed red fruit and floral cherry notes dominate the aromas. The palate opens to offer juicy, broad, soft, supple red fruit that caresses the palate. This perfectly captures the aromatic nature and lighter structure of Charmes, with a fine, white stone mineral persistence and terrific energy which leads to an elegant finish. Drink 2022-2029

2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru, Les Fuées, Domaine Faiveley

£ 520 per 6 bottle case in bond

Currently closed on the nose, though the fruit density comes through on the palate. Ripe red berry fruit is followed by a powerful mineral finish. The potential offered by this 2017 Fuées is evident with its fine depth and significant structure. The intensity gradually builds across the palate leaving an impression of mineral persistence. Drink 2024-2030

2017 Corton Grand Cru, Clos des Cortons, Domaine Faiveley

£ 670 per 6 bottle case in bond

A gently expressed and sweetly floral red fruit nose and attack. A balanced palate with a vibrant and pure fruit core. The latent power and minerality control the palate, restrained and supportive yet life and length giving. Real stony mineral intensity at the end. Drink 2025-2035

2017 Échezeaux Grand Cru, En Orveaux, Domaine Faiveley

£ 670 per 6 bottle case in bond

Scented sweet ripe fruit.  Fine, concentrated red and darke berry fruit show real drive through the palate. The Échezeaux tautness is very well balanced here; less austere than some examples can be, but still with great length and energy. Drink 2025-2040

2017 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, Domaine Faiveley

£ 770 per 6 bottle case in bond  - SOLD OUT

The subtle toast notes frame fruit of great freshness. There is a noteworthy sense of concentration and finesse to the fruit here with a cool, mineral length. Really refined and showing great poise and persistence. Drink 2025-2040

2017 Chambertin Clos De Bèze Grand Cru, Domaine Faiveley

£ 1150 per 6 bottle case in bond  - SOLD OUT

Restrained and focused with fruit purity, mineral poise and measured power.  There is a floral touch to the forest and summer fruit that persist through the palate.  This is all elegant power and mineral persistence.  Drink 2025-2045

As always with Burgundy releases, we are unable to sell leading Grand Cru and Premier Cru or wines from particularly sought-after domaines in isolation – we cannot buy them from the domaines that way ourselves and we are aware that demand is sure to outstrip supply.
