Atlas Recap July 2016

Book Now - The  Vietti Tasting and Dinner (14th September)
We are incredibly pleased to be hosting a Vietti Tasting and Dinner on 14 September at Theo Randall, London. We have worked with Vietti for some time, an estate widely regarded among the top tier of Piemontese producers – and justifiably so. Elena Penna Currado, of the Vietti family, will be joining us for the special occasion which will focus primarily on the estate's Barolo. With 13 wines on show, it is an impressive line-up of vintages indeed and an opportunity to taste some more mature Vietti which is rarely afforded. Please Note: There are just a very few spaces remaining since releasing tickets yesterday afternoon so do let us know if you would like to join; you can book online or by responding directly to this email. Tickets are £225 (inc VAT) per person and are available to only 18 guests.

Register your Interest- The Tuscan Tasting (1st December)
On 1st December, Atlas will be hosting its biannual regional tasting at Vintner's Hall, London. This time, focusing on Tuscany, we will have over 40 wines on show from some of the region's top estates. These events offer the chance to contextualise a region and recent vintages. Although the final line-up is not yet confirmed, among the likely highlights will be Fontodi, Castellare di Castellina, Tua Rita, Petrolo and Ca'Marcanda. Our informal, walk around tastings fill up very quickly, so if you do register your interest now or respond to this email, we will ensure that you receive a space once we release tickets and the final line-up in a few weeks.

Missed the Offer?
We secured a small parcel of a 1er Cru made by Pierre-Yves Colin at a fraction of the price, namely the 2013 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru ‘Les Chenevottes’, Caroline Morey. The quality of the wines at Caroline Morey is certainly no surprise – given Pierre-Yves’ talent – but the price tag certainly is (£280/6 IB).The style of the wine is typical of Pierre-Yves, concentrated with a core of pure fruit yet rapier straight with real citrus bite and driving minerality. This was his final vintage making the wines at Caroline Morey and a fine one at that.

There is an uncommon precision and poise to both the 2013 Curly Flat Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (at £360/12 IB and £320/ 12 IB respectively); these wines, from Australia's Macedon Ranges, have real definition and age incredibly well. Once more, we are very pleased to be the only company to be offering these impressive wines in the UK. The 2013s are showing a generosity borne of a warm summer and yet retainin great balance. They display fine purity and a wealth of fruit as Simon's tasting notes attest.

At Atlas, we have championed a select number of Champagne growers whose wines deliver a quality over and above that of a general, widely available Grande Marque, and at a more affordable price.Producers such as Cédric Bouchard, De Sousa and Ulysse Collin have featured in our offers these past few years and will continue to do so, such is the quality and individuality of their wines. We thought it would be helpful to provide a list of current stocks and prices, along with a little guidance on style and composition. Let us know of your interest, all are available for immediate delivery.

Following a trip to Italy, Atlas’ Victoria Stephens-Clarkson MW and Steve Weids returned singing the praises for the wines of Castellare di Castellina. They were very impressed by one 2013 Poggio ai Merli (£250/6 IB), a Merlot produced in very limited quantities. A dark-berried, complex wine that balances the fine line between fruit intensity and grace, it makes a case for Merlot on the higher altitudes throughout Tuscany.
