  • Date: 19/09/2019

For this event, we have managed to source a single bottle of the 15 vintages to be shown directly from the Chateau itself – quite a feat, indeed!

Chateau Pichon-Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande was classified a Second Growth in the 1855 Classification and certainly since 1978 its status has been assured through the tireless work of May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, who took over the property that year. Quality has been consistently high, but it is the style of the wine that sets it apart for so many of its admirers. With an unusually high percentage of Merlot for a Cru Classé of Pauillac, the wines are renowned for their supple nature and seductive elegance while nevertheless retaining a restrained power at the core which gives them great longevity. The Château itself enjoys a magnificent position, looking out over Château Latour towards the Gironde estuary and the vineyards of these two chateaux adjoin and intermingle.

The property was purchased by Frédéric Rouzaud of Champagne Roederer group in 2007. Investments in the cellar and the vineyard have been significant since then, with the aim, as in so many leading wines, of increased precision and purity. Investment continues and yet, despite the size of the Roederer group, Pichon-Lalande still retains its family feel.

With a complete vertical of the vintages from 2006 back to 1998, followed by further highlights from the 1990s and 1980s, this is a scintillating line-up of 15 wines that should illustrate the consistently high quality and unique style achieved under the careful stewardship of Mme de Lencquesaing.

Vintages to be shown:
2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000,
1999, 1998, 1996, 1995, 1990, 1988, 1985, 1982

The evening will begin at 7pm with a glass of Champagne before moving onto the tasting and dinner, led by Simon Larkin MW (Managing Director) and Richard O’Mahony (Commercial Director). The head Chef at La Cabotte is creating a menu specifically to pair with the wines. We anticipate carriages for 10.30pm.
