Domaine Taupenot-Merme 2021

January 2023

Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Gevrey-Chambertin 2021

£345 per 6 bottle case in bond

Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022

Clean, vibrant summer fruit nose. On the palate, the fresh, pure berry fruit characters come through – raspberry, loganberry, blackberry. Then a stony mineral tannin length brings structure and shows the potential here with fruit and structure in fine harmony. Drink 2026-2034

Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Morey-St Denis 2021

£375 per 6 bottle case in bond

Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022

This captures the better nature of the vintage beautifully. That juteux aspect, juicy, clean, fluid. The fruit is vibrant and fresh with blueberry, strawberry and raspberry notes to the fore. The palate is clean and flowing, with the characteristic peppery spice of Morey emerging on the balanced finish of good persistence. Drink 2026-2034

Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Chambolle-Musigny 2021

£375 per 6 bottle case in bond

Neal Martin, vinous.com, 89-91 points, January 2023

The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Village, racked 4-6 weeks prior to my visit, has a fragrant bouquet, maybe without quite the same pixelation as the Morey-Saint-Denis. The palate is framed by edgy tannins, brambly red fruit, orange zest and a touch of black pepper, vibrant and energetic towards its tense finish. This will offer a lot of pleasure over the next decade. Drink 2024-2032

Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru, Bel-Air 2021

£730 per 6 bottle case in bond

Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022

There is a floral touch and hint of spice on the nose here with peony, cherry and raspberry. On the palate, the fruit shows great clarity and texture while a subtle mineral core builds in power. This is so well layered and harmonious. Subtle power, assertive yet balanced and integrated. A saline, mineral touch on the finish brings excellent focus and tension. Drink 2026-2035

Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Morey-St Denis 1er Cru, La Riotte 2021

£645 per 6 bottle case in bond

Neal Martin, vinous.com, 92-94 points, January 2023

The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte 1er Cru has a vivid and lively bouquet with effervescent red fruit laced with minerals. This positively leaps from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a keen line of acidity, fresh and tensile with a bright, peppery finish with ample salinity to get the saliva flowing. An excellent La Riotte. Drink 2025-2040

Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Combe d'Orveaux 2021

£750 per 6 bottle case in bond

Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022

Beautifully pure cherry fruit, fragrant and clean. This flows across the palate, ending with tannins of incredible finesse. There is a clear mineral drive towards the finish with a classic white stone grip which gives the palate a sense of poise and energy. So attractive and well crafted. Drink 2026-2036

Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Nuits-St Georges 1er Cru, Les Pruliers 2021

£630 per 6 bottle case in bond

Neal Martin, vinous.com, 90-92 points, January 2023

The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru was not really touched by the frost according to winemaker Laurent Lignier. Red berry fruit is intermixed with Earl Grey and undergrowth. The palate is well balanced with sappy red fruit, tobacco and another refreshingly saline finish. Maybe is doesn't have the finesse of the Domaine's top cuvées in 2021, but it is a solid showing Drink 2025-2040

Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2021

£1,440 per 6 bottle case in bond

Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022

Floral red fruit here but also an intimation of a greater density and breadth at the core of this wine. It does expand across the palate, showing depth and the quality of its Grand Cru status. There is a swathe of red and blue fruit and a velvety texture which then makes way for the long, mineral finish. This is a fine example of how the 2021 confirms the recognised hierarchy with this Grand Cru clearly showing its character and quality. Drink 2026-2040

Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru 2021

£1,680 per 6 bottle case in bond

Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022

Immediately, on the nose, this is all about finesse. There is a touch of spice with the fruit slightly darker than the Charmes. There is a spicy, peppery note too. The palate opens with dark red berry fruit and glides across the palate with a crystalline purity. The spicy blue fruit character re-emerges and then the finish is marked by a minerality and tannins of incredible finesse and persistence. There is a saline touch but the mouth-watering quality is very subtle and lingering. Outstanding. Drink 2026-2040

As always with Burgundy releases, we are unable to sell leading Grand Cru and Premier Cru or wines from particularly sought-after domaines in isolation – we cannot buy them from the domaines that way ourselves and we are aware that demand is sure to outstrip supply. However, instead of running a complex system of allocations, we do aim to confirm requests as soon as we are able to do so or to highlight where we are unable to assist. To request a specific wine, please contact any member of the sales team on +44 (0) 20 3017 2299. You can also reach Simon Larkin MWRichard O'Mahony, and James Ceppi di Lecco by email.
