bottles-hero

Domaine Latour-Giraud 2021

January 2023

Jasper Morris MW opened his own notes on the Latour-Giraud 2021s thus: “Jean-Pierre Latour is my hero this year for two reasons…” The first related to his honesty with regard to his reds, which he mainly declassified. But “secondly because his range of white wines was just about the finest I tasted through the autumn months!

We have long championed these exquisite wines of Jean-Pierre Latour and continue to do so. It was a pleasure to taste with Jean-Pierre in November last year, though his sadness at the size of the vintage was all too evident, particularly as he listed the Premiers Crus that he was not able to produce in 2021 – Bouchères, Perrières and Poruzot. The wines that have made it through are spellbinding and a true testament to Jean-Pierre’s commitment and work ethic.

Domaine Latour-Giraud, Bourgogne Chardonnay 2021

£150 per 6 bottle case in bond

Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022

The concentration of fruit for a simple Bourgogne Blanc is astonishing here. Pure, ripe citrus fruit flavours – lemon, lime, grapefruit. Great tension and length for level. As ever, an overperformer. Drink 2024-2027

Domaine Latour-Giraud, Meursault, Les Narvaux 2021

£360 per 6 bottle case in bond

Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022

Elegant, zesty lemon on the nose. Pure and clean with a crystalline fruit quality. Incredible richness and fruit intensity at the core and a juicy mouthfeel. Mouth-watering. Lovely balance with a beautiful sweetness of fruit at the end. Drink 2025-2032

Domaine Latour-Giraud, Meursault 1er Cru, Les Charmes 2021

£510 per 6 bottle case in bond

Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022

On the nose there is a sense of rich ripeness and concentration of fruit. The palate shows a sweetness of fruit on the attack, really juicy and mouth-filling. Lemon and lime length. Such energy and persistence as has been increasingly the case with the Latour-Giraud Charmes over the last few vintages. There is such tension and energy here that is not always evident in the more generally broader style of Charmes. This captures Charmes but in a beautifully poised manner. Drink 2026-2034

Domaine Latour-Giraud, Meursault 1er Cru, Les Genevrières 2021

£540 per 6 bottle case in bond

Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022

There is a richness on the nose of this Genevrières that translates to the palate, where it is then cut by a dynamic sense of energy. Classic lime flavours of Genevrières dominate the late palate giving a juicy, but clean and fresh, citrus fruit length which is underpinned by a currently subdued mineral tension. Drink 2026-2034

Domaine Latour-Giraud, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru, Les Champs Canet 2021

£540 per 6 bottle case in bond

Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022

Almond and blossom notes on the nose here. This is a cooler terroir and it shows in the profile with a sublime tension and mineral linearity. Not lacking yellow citrus fruit at its core though. Subtle mineral length. Drink 2026-2034

Domaine Latour-Giraud, Meursault 1er Cru, Les Genevrières, Cuvée des Pierre 2021

£255 per magnum in bond

Richard O’Mahony, Atlas Fine Wines, November 2022

Beautifully sweet ripe citrus fruit on the nose. The fruit spreads across the palate with a silkiness and textural grace. Then the tension kicks in showing such energy and mineral drive. This balances old vine fruit concentration and power with a profound mineral expression of this benchmark terroir and with time in magnum this will just get better and better. Drink 2028-2036

As always with Burgundy releases, we are unable to sell leading Grand Cru and Premier Cru or wines from particularly sought-after domaines in isolation – we cannot buy them from the domaines that way ourselves and we are aware that demand is sure to outstrip supply. However, instead of running a complex system of allocations, we do aim to confirm requests as soon as we are able to do so or to highlight where we are unable to assist. To request a specific wine, please contact any member of the sales team on +44 (0) 20 3017 2299. You can also reach Simon Larkin MWRichard O'Mahony, and James Ceppi di Lecco by email.
