Jasper Morris MW opened his own notes on the Latour-Giraud 2021s thus: “Jean-Pierre Latour is my hero this year for two reasons…” The first related to his honesty with regard to his reds, which he mainly declassified. But “secondly because his range of white wines was just about the finest I tasted through the autumn months!
We have long championed these exquisite wines of Jean-Pierre Latour and continue to do so. It was a pleasure to taste with Jean-Pierre in November last year, though his sadness at the size of the vintage was all too evident, particularly as he listed the Premiers Crus that he was not able to produce in 2021 – Bouchères, Perrières and Poruzot. The wines that have made it through are spellbinding and a true testament to Jean-Pierre’s commitment and work ethic.

On the nose there is a sense of rich ripeness and concentration of fruit. The palate shows a sweetness of fruit on the attack, really juicy and mouth-filling. Lemon and lime length. Such energy and persistence as has been increasingly the case with the Latour-Giraud Charmes over the last few vintages. There is such tension and energy here that is not always evident in the more generally broader style of Charmes. This captures Charmes but in a beautifully poised manner. Drink 2026-2034

There is a richness on the nose of this Genevrières that translates to the palate, where it is then cut by a dynamic sense of energy. Beautifully sweet ripe citrus fruit on the nose. The fruit spreads across the palate with a silkiness and textural grace. Then the tension kicks in showing such energy and mineral drive.
