Burgundy 2014

Domaine Hudelot-Noellat 2017

Please note: We regret that, just like all fine wine merchants, we are unable to sell leading Grand Cru and Premier Cru or wines from particularly sought after domaines in isolation – we cannot buy them from the domaines that way ourselves and we are aware that demand is sure to outstrip supply. Instead of running a complex system of allocations, we aim to confirm requests shortly after they are made or highlight where we are unable to assist or where a balance might be required to secure a particularly desirable wine.

Since his arrival in 2008, Charles Van Canneyt has carefully refined and enhanced the wines and the reputation of this long fine domaine.  We have said before how this is particularly evident at village and lower Premier Cru level where Hudelot had sometimes perhaps underachieved.  The big change at these levels is more focused yield management but  Charles’ meticulous nature has had an impact across every aspect of the vineyard work and winemaking.  The wines show a real mineral nature and great fruit sweetness and purity.  These 2017s show all the balance and harmony that the vintage was capable of giving to those producers, such as Charles, sufficiently dedicated to their vineyards throughout the season.  A great range.

2017 Bourgogne Rouge, Domaine Hudelot-Noellat

£195 per 12 bottle case in bond

Floral, fresh cherry notes on the nose lead into a supple, juicy red fruit palate.  A gentle spicy touch adds interest and there is a gentle chalky tannin touch to give some support.  Drink 2019-2022

2017 Chambolle-MusignyDomaine Hudelot-Noellat

£215 per 6 bottle case in bond

Scented dark cherry and raspberry aromatics give way to a flowing palate of sweet dark berry fruit.  There is great finesse and elegance here too, with a fine line of acidity giving energy and persistence, expressed with a wonderful lightness of touch, befitting a finely-crafted Chambolle.  Drink 2020-2028

2017 Nuits-St Georges 1er Cru, Les Murgers, Domaine Hudelot-Noellat

£390 per 6 bottle case in bond

Flowing, textural, sweet dark fruit in abundance here.  The Murgers style really comes through in the velvet textures that caress the palate and there is a sense of depth and power, all carried by fine tannins that bring a wonderfully grippy, mineral length.  Drink 2022-2032

2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru, CharmesDomaine Hudelot-Noellat

£490 per 6 bottle case in bond

Richly floral, perfumed nose with raspberry and loganberry fruit.  Vibrant, fresh and pure, the palate shows an appealing depth of sweet, ripe red and black berry fruit with a slight spicy note towards the end, lifting the finish, which, typical of the range, has plenty of energy and focus.  Drink 2021-2030

2017 Clos Vougeot, Domaine Hudelot-Noellat

£675 per 6 bottle case in bond

Pure, focused red and black berry fruit on the nose together with a white stone minerality.  There is a sense of restraint and of much more to come in this powerful expression of Vougeot, which finishes with a firm mineral persistence.  Drink 2025-2035

As always with Burgundy releases, we are unable to sell leading Grand Cru and Premier Cru or wines from particularly sought-after domaines in isolation – we cannot buy them from the domaines that way ourselves and we are aware that demand is sure to outstrip supply. However, instead of running a complex system of allocations, we do aim to confirm requests as soon as we are able to do so or to highlight where we are unable to assist.
