It is always such a pleasure to visit and taste with Jean-Pierre Latour, as I was able to do again in November 2021. He converses with such ease and honesty about his wines. As Jasper Morris MW wrote recently, Jean-Pierre Latour “is one of the most thoughtful winemakers I have come across, thinking through every stage whether viticulture, harvesting or techniques in the cellar, and still looking to do better.” I fully concur.

At Atlas, we recognised this same character trait some years ago, having started working directly with Domaine Latour-Giraud in early 2017, when we offered their 2015s. We too have been impressed by the thoughtfulness of his approach and his yearning to constantly improve. We have seen this vintage after vintage since those 2015s. Importantly, we see it across the domaine’s entire range and the Bourgogne Blanc typifies the style in its pure and ripe yet supple and subtle fruit counterbalanced by perfectly judged acidity.

The 2019s are now with us and available for immediate delivery. I have been drinking the excellent Bourgogne Blanc 2019 myself recently and can testify that it is drinking very well, having come together beautifully since Morris’ note from twelve months ago, which correctly describes the ripe fruit of the vintage underscored by a clean fresh finish of admirable persistence for a humble Bourgogne Blanc, but which could not then highlight the harmony and drinking pleasure that an extra year in bottle has given this great value Bourgogne Blanc.

The vines are situated behind Domaine Roulot in Meursault. Clear pale colour, not a lot of bouquet but this is a pure clean and stylish mini-Meursault, with some sweetness of fruit in this ripe year, and impeccable length. Even quite lively at the finish. Ripe apple notes.

As mentioned, this is available for immediate delivery and is an outstandingly good value Bourgogne Blanc.

Let me know if you would like a case or two and if you would like it delivered soon.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Take care,

Richard
