I know other merchants have sung the praises of Château Meyney’s consistency over the last five to six years, but this is the first time we have elected to offer. Why? To be honest, we haven’t tasted it every year, but we have done so relatively routinely across the last three or four vintages, and this vintage is by far the most compelling to date. Yes, the price has increased in 2022, but so has the quality and this humble Saint-Estèphe remains a keen value. I was impressed by the beautifully ripe core of dark fruit, and the ripeness of the tannins that provide an ample frame, but by no means build a sense of austerity. Rather, they reveal the sweetness and finesse of a fine vintage. Unashamedly Saint-Estèphe with that slight savoury, iodine/mussel shell touch, I considered this likely to be a bargain, and, unlike many wines of this level, this is a strong prospect for relatively long-term cellarage.

Please see the notes from Jane Anson and William Kelley below.

95 points, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux
A vineyard that should perform strongly in this kind of vintage, because located right next to the river for air conditioning, with a mix of gravel with clear clay sections to retain freshness, and it's definitely one to look out for. Layers of redcurrant, raspberry and blackcurrant fruits, juicy mouthwatering finish, peony, pencil lead, orange peel, 3.75ph. Certainly this is a great example of Meyney. Hubert de Boüard consultant. A buy.

91-93 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
Opening in the glass with aromas of sweet dark berries, licorice and petals, the 2022 Meyney is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a fleshy core of fruit girdled by sweet but firm tannins. Pure and taut, it is a strong effort that will require a bit of patience.

Please let us know of your interest.

All the best
