The Atlas Recap

by | Nov 06, 2018

Missed the Offer?

Early last week we offered two exceptional Toro, namely the 2015 Cachito Mio, Casa Maguila and 2012 Quizas, Casa Maguila (£150/12 and £195/6 IB respectively)These are remarkably impressive wines and balance both the exuberant, juicy ripe fruit and freshness of the region.

Since we first offered the wines from Bekkers and Curly Flat, we continue to be compelled with each new release, and the 2015 vintage was no exception. We offer the 2015 Syrah, Syrah Grenache and Grenache Bekkers (£340/6, £270/6, £240/6 IB respectively) and 2015 Pinot Noir and 2015 Chardonnay Curly Flat (£380/12 and £350/12 IB respectively).  Both Bekkers and Curly Flat continue to impress with the quality on show, and – having attended a number of Australian trade tastings this autumn – we can attest that these are some of the most exciting wines to be produced in the country.

Likewise, we have followed the Champagnes of Egly Ouriet for some time, a staple now in many of our clients’ collections. Our offer includes the NV Tradition (£235/6), Vieillissement Prolongé (£325/6 IB), 'Les Crayères' (£485/6).

At Atlas

We are really pleased to inform you of developments within the Atlas Team, in line with our continued growth. Most notably is the appointment of Gareth Davies as Atlas' Trading Director. Gareth, who joined the company in 2014, is now joined by Hector Howes, who works closely with negociants and Atlas' buying requirements in France.

Weibo Jiang (pictured left) joins the private client sales side of the business with over seven years of experience with another leading fine wine merchant in the UK. She will spend some time in China each year meeting with those clients who are based abroad. Most recently, Sebastien Agnello joined Laura Hollingsworth to offer sales and buying support to the team. As they each are increasingly working with Atlas’ private clients, they will no doubt become more familiar names.

Simon Larkin MW, Atlas’ Managing Director, was recently quoted in an article that appeared in GQ about wine investment, commenting “Finding someone who you trust is important; they should have a proven history in the trade, be able to show their experience and be able to explain exactly how they operate.”  You can read the full article here. We were also really pleased that Toby and Emma Bekkers, (their 2015 vintage mentioned above) received such a glowing profile in the latest issue of The World of Fine Wine. You can read about their "uncompromising approach to producing wine" here

Five members of the Atlas team will head across to Burgundy next week to meet with growers and taste the 2017 vintage. Although outlook on the vintage seems positive – with higher volumes than in recent years and good quality of fruit – as ever, it is impossible to make generalisations on the region. Our vintage report and tasting notes will be published towards the end of the year, so please do look out for those.
